Annual Water Main Flushing 2019

by City Hall 4/19/2019
Annual Water Main Flushing Program is scheduled for April 22-26th, 2019. Polk City Public Works Department will be conducting a Water Main Flushing Program to systematically “flush” water mains in the distribution system. The water is released by sequentially opening fire hydrants and flushing water from the pipelines. Flushing water through the pipes at high velocities removes potential buildup in pipes and releases harmless sediments. Public Works crews will be working in your neighborhoods at different intervals throughout the week. The water supply to customers will not be turned off during flushing but you may have low water pressure during this process. Residents may also notice some water discoloration during this time. If you are running water when we are flushing and notice discoloration, you should not run your hot water or do any laundry. Turn on and run your cold water until the discoloration clears. If you are doing laundry, do not dry those clothes; washing the items again will usually take care of this problem. If you have any questions, please call City Hall 515-984-6233. Thank you for your understanding during this process.
